A 40-year-old NYPD officer has been arrested and charged with raping a teenage girl and recording video of her during sex acts, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office. The victim was engaged in prostitution during the acts, according to the charges. Officer Raul Olmeda, of the 42nd Precinct in the Bronx, was arrested while off-duty Tuesday morning, around 6:30 a.m. He was indicted this afternoon in Bronx Supreme Court on 67 counts, including sexually motivated felony, use of child in a sexual performance, third-degree rape, third degree criminal sex act, and third degree patronizing a person for prostitution, among others. Prosecutors say Olmeda allegedly paid the underage girl for sex and videotaped her multiple times between January and early April of this year. His home was searched as part of an ongoing criminal investigation, turning up hard drives, his computer, and his cell phone all of which are still under review. "The defendant preyed on the vulnerable young woman and videotaped his demeaning and dehumanizing acts," said DA Darcel Clark. NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill called the allegations "egregious." "The fact that the defendant is an NYPD officer evidences an unconscionable violation of his oath to uphold the law and protect the public," O'Neill added. Olmeda was on modified duty at the time of his arrest, according to the DA's office, though it wasn't immediately clear why. Attorney information for the officer was not immediately available. Olmeda was arraigned before Justice Steven Barrett. His bail was set at $250,000, and his next court date is October 16th. He faces a maximum sentence of fifteen years.
