Death of 3-year-old Queens child covered in bruises deemed a homicide

The death of a 3-year-old Queens boy whose grandmother rushed him to the hospital with bruising all over his body has been deemed a homicide, officials said Friday. Romeo Lewis died on Aug. 2, after lying unresponsive in a bed at Long Island Jewish Hospital for five days. His grandmother, Sita Moore, rushed the child from her South Richmond Hill home to Jamaica Hospital on July 28, claiming Romeo fell down a flight of stairs a day earlier and was having trouble breathing. Romeo suffered brain damage and was riddled with bruises — all of which were inconsistent with a fall down the stairs. No arrests have been made, although investigators had planned to re-interview Moore and the step-grandfather .
