Scranton man had sex with 15-year-old girl

A 27-year-old man admitted to Scranton police on Tuesday he twice had sex with a 15-year-old girl earlier this year, city police said. Joaquin Castro, 924 Prospect Ave., is charged with sexual assault, statutory sexual assault and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a person less than 16 years of age, Detective Christian Gowarty charged in a criminal complaint. The Times-Tribune does not identify victims of sexual assault. The girl disclosed earlier this month during a forensic interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Northeastern Pennsylvania that Mr. Castro had twice forced her to have sexual intercourse with him. Detectives interviewed Mr. Castro on Tuesday and he initially denied the allegations. He agreed to take a computer voice stress analyzer test to prove his innocence. However, before he took the test, Mr. Castro admitted he had lied and said he had “consensual sex” on two occasions with the 15-year-old, police said. Magisterial District Judge Joanne Price Corbett arraigned him Tuesday night and jailed him at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $30,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 3 at 10:15 a.m.
