Two Brooklyn cops kill man who attacked with stolen baton

Two city cops shot to death a 21-year-old man who attacked them with one of their own collapsible batons during a skirmish in a Brooklyn housing project Saturday, officials said. Erickson Gomez Brito — who relatives said had struggled with depression and addiction in the past — jumped Officers Jennifer Garcia and Andris Bisogno inside the Van Dyke Houses on Sutter Ave. near Mother Gaston Blvd. when they asked him for ID at 1:30 p.m., police said. Police fired up to nine times, stunned witnesses said. “They ran in the building and all I heard was shots after that,” said 29-year-old Dominique Cruz, who was in the courtyard when the shooting took place.Family of the man killed want the FBI to investigate the murder of Brito.
